European Week for Waste WeekIt was held on Thursday, November 24, 2011 at 9.45 am at the Hall of the Palazzo Caracciolo Grasso, seat of the Province of Avellino, the press conference to present the activities that the Provincial Government will conduct as part of the "European Week for Waste Reduction" , an event supported by the European Union to promote and raise awareness of the institutions and all citizens to reduce waste production. The speakers were the President of the Province, Cosimo Sibilia, the Minister for Environment, Domenico Gambacorta and the Director General of the Hospital "San Giuseppe Moscati," Avellino, Giuseppe Rosato. The project continues to raise awareness in the wake of work undertaken in previous editions, which have seen the direct participation of the Provincial Education Office in the person of Director of Education, Rosa Grano and over 1,700 pupils. This year the Province introduced an innovative action aimed at focusing attention on a seemingly trivial, such as the production of waste arising from the use of disposable diapers. This practice, now come into common usage, has important reflections in terms of volumes of waste products, which was not recyclable. The idea is to promote the use of eco-nappies are reusable and recyclable, which environmental sustainability can be quantified in savings for every child, at least 20 trees and a ton of waste. The initiative involved sees the Hospital of National Importance "Moscati", with which, in the maternity wards, will be distributed free two eco-reusable nappies to all families of newborns in the hospital from November 24 until December 31 , 2011. This will allow a considerable reduction of waste, estimated at 200 tonnes in the next 3 years and save approximately 4,000 trees, as well as an awareness of how even small gestures of everyday life, if conducted properly, can contribute considerably to improve the quality of the environment.
